October News—Verse of the Month!

Updated: Oct 3, 2019

Well, it's Wednesday—the first of the month—and since October Wednesdays only come around once a year, it's another simple blessing to be thankful for. In honour of the occasion, I thought I'd start something new, a continuation of a great new tradition I've recently begun with my family.

In Sunday School, memorizing Scripture verses was a necessity, an integral part of church life. I may not have appreciated it enough at the time, but I'm thankful now for the plethora of verses I've drilled into my memory over the years. Having graduated from Sunday School, though, and being immersed instead in the stresses of high school life, I've found it harder and harder to dedicate time to memorization, which is why I proposed a solution at home: the family Verse of the Month.

It's a basic idea: every month someone contributes a verse that is speaking to them at the time, I type it up on my good ol' Underwood, and it takes up residence in its place of honour on the fridge in the central hub of the household—i.e. the kitchen. Not only does it give me an excuse to use my fantastic vintage typewriter (I am still planning to blog about that, by the way) but it's been a great way to keep up Scripture memorization with the help of everyone in the family.

That was a long-winded way to get to my point: introducing, the first ever October Verse of the Month!

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation. ~Isaiah 12:2

This verse leaped at me from the pages of Isaiah, and I cannot wait to hide it in my heart. Stay tuned to future October posts for thoughts on how Isaiah 12:2 has touched my life personally, and how it can touch yours this fine October. Until then!
